- Whether the boat is in a slip, on a trailer at a residence, in a storage space or at a marine facility.

- Whether the marina or dock permits outside service work, and whether entry needs to be arranged in advance.
- Property access
- Gate codes, escorts, office check-in, and enough clear room around the boat to work safely on both sides.
- Repair type
- Some work suits a mobile visit; work needing the engine removed, a lift or a controlled setting does not.
- Weather
- Outdoor and on-water work depends on conditions being safe, and weather can move a scheduled visit.
- Safety
- Working over water, around fuel, or in a cramped space has to be done safely or it is not done at all.
